How To Draw Cartoon Puppy

Let’s draw a cartoon puppy. This one is very cute so I thought you may like it. The whole process consists of these few simple steps you can easily follow.

Circles, half-circles, noodles, ellipses…and soon you’ll get your puppy ready and smiling :)

Before you begin to draw, observe the picture well. Body posture and its size, face expression, head, and its size.

Notice that cartoon puppies have relatively large heads compared to their bodies.

That makes them look cute :)

Let’ Draw This Cute Cartoon Puppy

Draw a circle and a noodle. The circle is the puppy’s head and the noodle is the body.

You can begin to draw many cartoon characters like this. As you practice more you’ll understand the process well.

Divide the head circle the same way you see it in the picture. On the curved line draw two “eggs” these will be the eyes of the cartoon puppy.

Make sure you draw only very light thin lines that you can erase later easily.

Now comes the mouth and nose. Draw one bigger ellipse over one of the puppy’s eyes. Next, draw another ellipse and half-ellipse as you see in this picture. These will be the nose and the mouth.

This puppy‘s smile is rather wide, so we have to draw its mouth adequately wide too.

That elongated noodle under its eyes will represent the widely open smiling mouth. Draw it as you see in the picture. Draw the ears.

Now, let’s give the puppy its final shape. Draw the legs with large paws. Notice that most of the cute characters like puppies, kitties, etc have rather huge paws.  Don’t forget to draw the tail too :)

Now, erase all unnecessary pencil lines. You don’t need them anymore. Erase them the same way as you see in the picture.

I recommend using pencil-type-eraser so that you can erase also narrow places.

Draw the puppy’s tongue. This is one of the cutest points on its face.

Erase the unnecessary lines around the mouth area so that you will have clear contours of the puppy’s face.

Use a soft pencil to outline the contours on the entire body as you see in this picture. Erase all pencil lines cluster that is not necessary.

Now you have clear contours of your cartoon puppy, a kind of coloring page.

Almost ready :)

Darken the ears, the back, the tail, and the big circle around the eye. Work out the iris on the eyes and darken the inside of the mouth.

You can slightly shade the puppy’s body. Leave the paws and the belly white, that makes it look cute :)
