Welcome to Steven Chesley’s original drawings gallery. The most
interesting thing that caught my attention was the nature of some of his
drawings, a kind of a blend of naïve art and (post) impressionism.
It’s a pity the pictures are little small, but Steven’s drawing concept
is really cool. The best thing in naïve art is that you do not need to
worry much about the exactness of the painted object. However, the
artist should have a good command of drawing figures, shapes and great
sense for proper balance and proportions.
The Raven’s head does not really belong to Naïve Art category, but it
looks like perfectly suitable as an illustration for a scary poster.
Great work!
Notice the trees on the “Valley” drawing. They have shade! Shade
automatically creates a three dimensional impression. Another
great oddity on naïve-like art is that it almost never contains
classical perspective drawing.
I like Steven’s cool idea of drawing shades behind trees.
When I see the drawing of “Day at the beach” it instantly reminds me of a
beautiful day hanging out on a beach and playing with the kids.
Witches castle idea looks quite scary too with the infuriated-scared cat
on the opposite side of the pavement. The cat on the picture adds a
great value to the total spookiness of this scenery. This is a very tiny
but very important detail. Steven Chesley's great idea.
It seems as if you absolutely must pass through the witches’ zone to
reach the castle entrance. But probably only a few brave ones can pass
through this challenge zone.
Bake sale drawing seeing from above reminds me of a winter scenery.
Overall very nice idea of people walking towards the church for a bake
sale.
“Man O War” drawing looks a little bit like some spooky (as well) hat of
a dead pirate, whose wandering soul used to re-appear somewhere in the
middle of nowhere on a lost island…
Just felt like drawing and this is what I ended up with. A black pen and a piece of 8 1/2 " x 11" photo copy paper can turn into anything I guess.
Day dreaming and came up with this
It was a very long winter and I was thinking of the beach
Just felt like drawing something from the sea. After I finished my drawing I felt that it needed some color to show more detail, so I grabbed my paints and this is how it turned out.
Just a doodle
Just bored so I drew people walking to a bake sale at a church
