Chateau De Labourdonnais, Mauritius

Chateau De Labourdonnais, Mauritius

A work with ballpoint pens of 0.7mm and 1.0mm. On the left is Christian Wiehe who built this mansion. Middle is the mansion itself. On the right is an old abandoned train which is there and above it is an old chimney which is equally there.

In fact there are lot of old mansions here. In the past there were trains here during French and British rule, yes. There were more than 300 chimneys since the economy of the island was sugar cane.

Mauritius got independance in 1968. According to history, the Arabs came here first in 14th century I think, then the Portugese. At around 1610 the Dutch conquered the island and they finished the endemic bird called Dodo. In 1710 the French came and the British in 1810.

The British ruled till 1968. Mauritius is a multi racial country. Our ancestors came from India mostly. There are also those who came from Africa, China and Europe.

Very nice concept idea! This can be a postcard or maybe a tourist guide cover page on Mauritius :) I wonder if on a small island like Mauritius, there really are abandoned objects? Like this train? Or even old mansions? The reason I am saying this is because (although I have never been on Mauritius, yet) I guess that on such places like Mauritius everything is already taken and has a proprietor...?
