This was very helpful, but I still have a problem.
Would someone please email me with a solution:
If you draw a circle with a diameter of 30" and draw a 5 point star as indicated, what is the formula (s) to determine the length of the arms.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Were I you, and facing the 30-inch diameter star, what I would do is:

1. Use a compass to scribe a smaller circle, say 6", concentric with the 30" circle.

2. Set the 5 points out on the smaller circle per the instructions given in the article.

3. Pin a string or chalkline to the center point.

4. Keeping the string taut, mark the points on the outer, larger circle by marking when the line directly connects the center with each of the 5 points on the edge of the smaller circle. If using a chalkline, snap it now.

5. If not using a chalkline, use a suitable straightedge and draw the lines from the center of the circles to the points on the edge of the larger circle.

6. Voila'! Your larger star is now drawn out!
