Not sure I got this right I think the trunk is lacking something. Any suggestions would be helpful.

:) it is very OK for the first try! your drawing is GOOD, it has some interesting artistic expression :) if you want to improve and make it resemble to the original drawing, my suggestions would be: observe well again the trunk, it should be a bit thinner. About the green leaves (branches): don't be afraid to add more of them. They should look like when water springs out of the fountain, up and on each side :) When drawing palm trees, you don't need to worry about the "straightness" of the trunk, it can be bend, it can be curved or straight, any shape is OK :) BTW, i like your version of coloring the trunk by brown color pencil :) One more suggestion; get yourself a tracing paper, zoom up the palm tree on your computer, place the tracing paper on your computer screen ( you can fix it by tape) and trace the silhouette of the original drawing - and then work it out and color it :) this simple sneaky technique will help you improve your drawing skills, it doesn't matter whether you draw palm trees or animals or whatever :)
